Early Life

Karidja Toure is the daughter of a daycare worker and estate agent. She was born on 14th February 1994 in Bondy, one of the northeastern suburbs of Paris, France. Toure’s parents are both originally from Ivory Coast. She spent her childhood in Paris’s 15th arrondissement and is a devout Muslim.

Filmography

Toure began her acting career in 2014 when she was only 20 years old and in her first college year where she takes an assistant management program. At that time, she was visiting an amusement park where a casting director spotted her.

She was later offered a role in the movie “Girlhood” which was directed by Celine Sciamma. Her role as Marieme or Vic in this film nominated her in a number of prestigious nominations in the country, such as the Most Promising Actress in Cesar Award.

Her first movie made her obtaining lots of recognition, including that of Hollywood. She was asked to join an audition in X-Men: Apocalypse as Storm. But at the end, the part went to an American actress, named Alexandra Shipp.

Although Toure didn’t get the role, she made appearances in several films in her home country. In 2017, she portrayed various types of characters in numerous movies. Madame Naja in the film “The Midwife” which was written and directed by Martin Provost is one of her prominent characters in her entire career. 

The movie was unfortunately screened out of the Berlin International Film Festival in 2017. Still, she quickly rose to prominence in her career in a short amount of time. She also influenced others through her work and gaining a great deal of fame.

In addition to movies, Toure also made an appearance in a music video named “Jeune” in 2015. It’s a single written and sung by Louane Emera, a French popular singer, and songwriter.
